Our Story

Lisa Carvey hails from Vermont, and first moved to Whidbey Island in 2003 where she worked as a server at the Braeburn for 2 years under the original Braeburn owners.

She returned to Vermont in 2005 to be closer to her family but during a quick visit to Whidbey in 2010, discovered that The Braeburn was for sale. Her extensive background in the hospitality business (from serving to hosting, bartending to dining room manager, and several years as an events coordinator and wedding planner at a Vermont resort) prepared her well for the challenges of running her own restaurant, and she decided the timing was right to give it a try. Thus, the “new” Braeburn was born on November 1, 2010.

The opportunity to remodel presented itself in late 2017 and The Braeburn closed from late January through May 2018, taking over the retail space that had occupied the space in the same building as the restaurant. Reopening in a beautiful new (and much more functional) space in June 2018, Lisa is now well established and concentrating on working with her fabulous staff  to continue building a menu and style that reflects their passion for eating fresh, natural, locally sourced products, in a relaxed and enjoyable “Island” atmosphere.
